(ANSA) - Bergamo, September 15 - A court in the northern
city of Bergamo on Monday turned down a defense motion for the
release from pretrial custody of Massimo Bossetti, the prime
suspect in the 2010 murder of 13-year-old schoolgirl Yara
Gambirasio.
There is convincing evidence against Bossetti, who should
be kept behind bars because he may kill again, the court ruled.
Four different forensic lab tests have confirmed the DNA
found on Gambirasio's leggings and underwear belonged to
Bossetti, a 44-year-old construction worker.
The suspect, who maintains he has no idea how his DNA got
on Gambirasio's underwear, was taken into custody June 16 and
charged with her murder the following day.
Investigators last Friday issued a report demolishing
Bossetti's alibi for the day Gambirasio was murdered.
They used telephone records, surveillance video, and testimony from colleagues and residents of Brembate Sopra, where Bossetti lived at the time of the murder, to rebut his alibi that he was at work on the day of the crime.
