Rome, February 17 - Rome Democratic Party (PD) commissioner Matteo Orfini called his party's response to the so-called Capital Mafia scandal in Rome "a model", in testimony before the Italian parliament's bicameral anti-mafia commission on Wednesday. "I'm not saying the party is immune to risks, we're all exposed to organised crime," Orfini told the commission. "But it would be advisable that everyone take up serious work in the fight against crime," he said. "The concern is that we're the only ones who had this type of reaction". "How was it possible to have a prefect, the one prior to the current one, who denied the presence of the mafia?" Orfini said. "I faced one of the most serious and complicated political crises in the life of the city, and I believe I did it with the intellectual honesty to not deny the extent of the problem, to not try to sweep it under the rug," he said. "There was a political responsibility of my party too. I'm not talking about criminal responsibility, but political, it's even more serious".
