Gentiloni govt born, set to be sworn in

Will ask confidence votes 'tomorrow and day after'

Gentiloni govt born, set to be sworn in

Rome, December 12 - New Premier Paolo Gentiloni, the foreign minister in Matteo Renzi's previous government, on Monday unveiled his government which will be sworn in by President Sergio Mattarella at 20:00 (19:00 GMT). Most of the cabinet were carry-overs from the government of Renzi, who quit after losing a Constitutional reform referendum a week ago on Sunday. Among the novelties, Angelino Alfano moves from interior to foreign minister, Gentiloni's old job, with new entry Marco Minniti taking his place. A completely new face is Education Minister Valeria Fedeli, while former cabinet secretary Luca Lotti gets the sports portfolio, Civil Service Minister Marianna Madia gets a new simplification brief, and former reforms minister Maria Elena Boschi becomes cabinet secretary, Lotti's old job. Gentiloni said after unveiling his cabinet that "I did my best to form the new government in the shortest time possible, to uphold the Italian president's invitation and in the interest of the stability of the institutions to which Italians look". Gentiloni said "the government as can be seen from its structure will continue the action of innovation carried out by the Renzi government and at the same time will work to facilitate the work of the various parliamentary forces aimed at setting new rules for the electoral law". Gentiloni said "the government will go to work immediately with all its forces focused on the problems to be solved in the country with the optimism that derives from the Italian people". Gentiloni said his government will ask for the confidence of the two houses of parliament "tomorrow and the day after tomorrow". Here is Gentiloni's new government: Premier: Paolo Gentiloni Cabinet secretary: Maria Eelena Boschi Ministers without portfolio Anna Finocchiaro: relations with parliament Marianna Madia: civil service Enrico Costa: regional affairs Claudio De Vincenti: territorial cohesion and Mezzogiorno Luca Lotti: Sport with media and CIPE briefs Ministers with portfolio Angelino Alfano: foreign ministry Marco Minniti: interior Andrea Orlando: justice Roberta Pinotti: defence Pier Carlo Padoan: economy Carlo Calenda: industry Maurizio Martina: agriculture Gianluca Galletti: environment Graziano Delrio: transport and infrastructures Beatrice Lorenzin: health Dario Franceschini: culture Valeria Fedeli: education Giuliano Poletti: labour.
