Armani champions new thermoribboned suit

'For the acceptably up-to-date man sure of being part of 2016'

Armani champions new thermoribboned suit

Milan, January 18 - Emporio Armani's winter collection men's fashion show opened to the strains of 'Space oddity' Monday in a tribute to the late star David Bowie, featuring the impact of pioneering 'thermoribboning' and 'thermosoldering' tailoring techniques. Such 'technotailoring' highlights denim and laser-sharp cuts for a "man sure of being part of 2016 without extravagance or excesses while being acceptably up to date," the designer says. "I put everything into avoiding anxiety for newness," said Armani. "The cleaning-up operation is the most difficult part to do for a men's collection". The result is neat and well-defined, thanks also to a "very important play with a very sophisticated colour palette" from stone gray to forest green. His research for the collection concentrated on tones and materials, giving new life to classic textiles such as bouclé and Wales combined with thermoribboned denim. Armani admits that "it is easy to slip," perhaps by making "reference to the scoops of the last collections with the mixture of masculine and feminine looks that could have caused a gratuitous sensation". Instead he chose another path of an "acceptable evolution": yesterday he was a jacket guru who at the beginning seemed a little extravagant for men, today it is a new form of pleated trousers and a low crotch. While on the one hand "the classic suit is a bore" Armani also sees happening "what I said years ago: we will go back to dressing like Romeo and Juliet, with little flowers, bows and tight trousers".
