Bakery gives bread away to the needy
'We're all children of the same father' says owner
Naples, April 19 - The owner of a bakery who has been donating unsold bread got top honors from local authorities on Tuesday. Ivano Iavazzo, owner of the Forno Cinquanta bakery in the Naples-area town of San Giorgio a Cremano, first had the idea of leaving bags of unsold bread and other baked goods outside his shop after closing on April 1. "The quantities we leave vary from day to day, but we never find anything left over the next morning," he said. "This makes us want to continue because we are all children of the same father and we are certain other businesses will soon follow suit". "We wanted to officially honor the owners...for the added value they bring to our city," Mayor Giorgio Zinno said as he handed out a certificate of esteem. "We would like this kind of action to become viral so as to contaminate our city with...good practices towards our needier fellow citizens". "A community's growth is not just economic but social as well," said Trade Councillor Annarita D'Arienzo. "This administration will always be on the side of productive businesses who make the fruits of their labor available to the community".
