Rome to light up Trevi Fountain in Belgian flag colours
Capitoline Hill, Florence fountain also to be illuminated
Rome, March 22 - Rome's Trevi Fountain and Capitoline Hill will be lit up in the colours of the Belgian flag on Tuesday evening as a tribute to the victims of terror attacks in Brussels which left at least 34 people dead. Rome city commissioner Francesco Paolo Tronca has arranged the illumination, which will run from 19:00 until 24:00. A short commemorative ceremony will take place at 18:55 at the Capitoline Hill. Florence's Fountain of Neptune in Piazza della Signoria will also be similarly lit up in the black, yellow and red of the Belgian flag from 18:30 on Tuesday evening, city authorities announced. A procession will then lead from Piazza della Signoria to the Belgian consulate. "Today's is another attack on the heart of Europe," said Florence Mayor Dario Nardella. "From Florence we are close to Belgium and we are ready to work with other European cities to prevent terrorism from taking root," he said. The attacks occurred on Tuesday morning at Maelbeek metro station near European Union headquarters and Brussels' Zaventem airport. The Islamic State (ISIS) terror group has claimed responsibility for them, according to the ISIS-linked Amaq news agency.
