Ex-Calabria councillor in 'Ndrangheta probe

(ANSA) - Reggio Calabria, July 7 - Former Calabria regional farm councillor Michele Trematerra of the small centrist UDC party has been placed under investigation in connection with a probe into the Calabrian 'Ndrangheta mafia, police said Tuesday. Police said the mafia tried to get votes for Trematerra in the 2010 regional elections. Police have appealed against a judge's ruling not to serve an arrest warrant on Trematerra. Also placed under investigation, for embezzlement, was the former mayor of the town of Acri, Luigi Maiorano.
Seven people were arrested in the probe Separately, Italian and German police arrested 10 people accused of 'cloning' 'Ndrangheta clans from Italy to Germany. The operation followed a similar one involving Calabrian clans exported to Switzerland.
