Judge orders AS Roma Curva Sud shut down at next home match

(ANSA) -Rome, April 7 - A Serie A sporting judge ruled soccer club AS Roma must shut down its so-called Curva Sud ultra stadium section for one home match, ANSA learned Tuesday. The decision came after Roma supporters displayed banners against the mother of late Napoli fan Ciro Esposito during a game against Napoli on Saturday. Esposito, 29, died of his injuries on June 25 last year after being shot by Roma fan Daniele De Santis in clashes before the Italian Cup final in the capital on May 3. The judge said the four banners contained "insulting provocations" aimed at Esposito's mother and were accompanied by chants denoting "territorial discrimination".
The Curva Sud, or South Stand, is for hard-core ultra fans. It will be shut down during the next home game, against Atalanta on April 19.
