The show was part of a series of events scheduled to celebrate the 2,000 anniversary of the ancient statesman.
According to City Council Member, Giovanna Marinelli the show was a great success and approximately 700 people attended the nightly opening (9-12 pm), although some visitors complained about a three hourly wait to get in.
The colours projected onto the monument were chosen after a thorough research into Roman and Pompeian painting techniques with the aim of reproducing tones similar to the ones which originally adorned the Ara Pacis.
Mayor of Rome, Ignazio Marino said on Wednesday that following the great response of the city to Tuesday's show, the event will be replicated until the 7th of September every Friday and Saturday.
