Kerala governor demands Modi gets Latorre back to India

Italian Senator said marine would not return

Kerala governor demands Modi gets Latorre back to India

New Delhi, January 13 - Oommen Chandy, the chief minister (governor) of the southern Indian state of Kerala, on Wednesday demanded that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi ensured that Italian marine Massimiliano Latorre returns from Italy when his leave for medical treatment expires on Friday. Latorre is one of two Italian marines accused of killing two Indian fishermen during an anti-piracy mission in 2012. New Delhi allowed Latorre to return to Italy for health treatment after he had a stroke in 2014. On Tuesday the head of the Italian Senate's defence committee, Nicola Latorre, said that Massimiliano Latorre will not return to India. "Today we will ask Prime Minister Narendra Modi to bring back the marine Massimiliano Latorre to India in the scheduled time frame of his permit," Chandy said. "Modi must intervene in a decisive way".
