Rome, January 12 - Lower House Speaker Laura Boldrini told RAI public broadcaster Tuesday a bloody Islamist terrorist attack in Istanbul earlier in the day is part of "a global menace" that requires a global response. The attack in the Turkish city killed 10 people, including eight German tourists and the Islamic State (ISIS) suicide bomber some media have identified as Saudi national Nabil Fadli. Islamist terrorists are "not targeting a specific part of the world, but an organized society that practices democracy," Boldrini said. "Istanbul is near our home, it is a part of our collective imagination and crossroads of cultures and religions," she said. "Today no place is safe...the menace is global and requires a global response," Boldrini said. That response must include international negotiations to put an the end to the five-year civil war in Syria "so Syrians can return to their homeland," she said.
