Quarto mayor ejected from M5S, says Grillo's blog (2)

Leader says Capuozzo violated movement's principles

Quarto mayor ejected from M5S, says Grillo's blog (2)

Rome, January 12 - Beppe Grillo, the leader of the anti-establishment 5-Star Movement (M5S), announced on his blog Tuesday that the mayor of the town of Quarto, near Naples, has been ejected from the movement. Grillo had called on the mayor, Rosa Capuozzo, to resign after allegations her council had been infiltrated by the the Campania mafia, the Camorra. On Monday Capuozzo said she was taking time to consider her position. "Rosa Capuozzo has received an expulsion notification from the 5-Star Movement (M5S) because of a serious violation of its principles," read Grillo's blog. "Because we are the 5-Star Movement, not any old PD," he added, referring to Premier Matteo Renzi's centre-left Democratic Party (PD). The Quarto case has caused embarrassment to the M5S, which says that it, unlike Italy's traditional parties, is untainted by corruption.
