Cops seize 6.5mn in assets linked to Cinzia Mangano

Daughter of late Berlusconi 'stable manager' doing time

Cops seize 6.5mn in assets linked to Cinzia Mangano

Milan, January 11 - Police on Monday seized assets worth 6.5 million euros from two accountants who allegedly aided the daughter of a late Mafia don famous for a mid-1970s career as an alleged stable manager at ex-premier Silvio Berlusconi's villa outside Milan. The assets seized included apartments, houses, land, insurance policies, companies, bank accounts and cars belonging to Rocco and Domenico Cristodaro, whom prosecutors say set up fake companies and issued false invoices to the benefit of Cinzia Mangano. The two are "a danger to society", the seizure warrant said. Cinzia Mangano was sentenced in August 2014 to upwards of six years in prison for criminal conspiracy in a money laundering case. That verdict and sentence were upheld on appeal in September 2015. While the court had found Mangano and five others guilty of "simple" and not mafia-style criminal conspiracy, prosecutors now hold that their racketeering organization was a de facto Milan branch of the Cosa Nostra Mafia in Sicily, that it had entered into a pact with the powerful 'Ndrangheta mafia in Calabria, and that it had set up a system that infiltrated the "economic fabric" of Lombardy. Cinzia Mangano's father Vittorio Mangano died of cancer in prison in 2000 while serving time for drug trafficking and facing a double homicide rap. Late anti-Mafia hero Paolo Borsellino had said he was a key figure in Mafia money laundering in northern Italy.
