Women's alpine ski team hopes for comeback in Flachau

Flachau, January 11 - The Italian women's alpine ski team is hoping for even a slight comeback at the FIS Ski World Cup Ladies' Night Slalom in Flachau, Austria, on Tuesday evening. The first run will commence at 5:45 p.m. and the second run at 8:45 p.m. On Friday and Sunday, Flachau will also host the ladies' slalom events rescheduled from Ofterschwang, Germany due to a lack of snow. The national women's team didn't have a great showing in its most recent World Cup outing last Monday at Italy's Santa Caterina Valfurva. The only team member to place in that slalom was Manuela Moelgg, in a disappointing 24th place out of 27. The men's alpine ski team is in Wengen, Germany for three days of competition to start January 15 on the slopes of the Lauberhorn, whose downhill course is the longest in the world at 4.5 kilometers. Downhill training runs will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, with the alpine combined downhill and combined slalom to take place Friday. On Saturday the classic downhill will be held, and the special slalom will take place Sunday. The only change regards the special, including the combined. It wasn't possible to cover the traditional run with snow in time, so the competitions will be held on the final slopes of Lauberhorn's downhill run. photo: Manuela Moelgg
