Concordia captain would 'gladly' return to the helm
(ANSA) - Naples, January 30 - Francesco Schettino, the captain of the Costa Concordia cruise ship that capsized killing 32 people last year, told reporters on Wednesday that he would "gladly return to the helm" of another cruise liner as commander. Schettino appeared at a hearing in Naples over his employer Costa Crociere's decision to fire him last July. The cruise company dismissed him after the January 13, 2012 disaster, when his Concordia cruise ship capsized off the island of Giglio. His lawyer argues the dismissal process used by the company was not legitimate. A decision is expected by February 8. Schettino, who is facing a possible indictment for multiple manslaughter, reportedly did not speak at the hearing and left the court without comment.
