(ANSA) - Rome, January 21 - Veteran Italian singer Al Bano filed a request for a death-in-absentia certificate for his long-missing eldest daughter Ylenia, whose disappearance led to the break-up of her celebrity parents. "I never wanted to (file for the certificate)," he told ANSA, "and in fact I waited 10 years longer than expected.
I was convinced for technical reasons".
Ylenia has been missing since a 1994 visit to New Orleans.
At the time she was 23.
The case hit headlines throughout the world, and despite hiring private investigators and following innumerable clues, the family never found a good lead as to what happened to her.
Al bano, real name Albano Carrisi, has said her disappearance was responsible for his 1999 break-up with his wife and singing partner Romina Power, daughter of Hollywood legend Tyrone Power.
