Two anarchists arrested for Adinolfi attack

(ANSA) - Turin, September 14 - Two known anarchists were arrested in Turin Friday for a May 7 gun attack on Ansaldo nuclear power company CEO Roberto Adinolfi. Adinolfi, 54, was shot in the leg as he left his Genoa home to go to work. The attack was claimed by the informal Anarchist Federation (FAI). The anarchists arrested Friday were named as Nicola Gay, 44, and Alfredo Costito, 46.
Police searched premises in Piedmont and Tuscany. The May attack sparked fears Italy might risk seeing a return of the political violence it endured in the 1970s. In June authorities arrested a number of FAI suspects allegedly involved in a series of attacks in recent years, in an operation that was hailed as a victory for the State. Those arrested were suspected of involvement in numerous attacks, including letter bombs sent last year to Italian tax-collection agency Equitalia, Deutsche Bank in Frankfurt and the Greek Embassy in Paris. However, the investigators said that none of the 10 arrested were suspected of involvement in the Adinolfi shooting. Ansaldo Nucleare is a subsidiary of the Ansaldo Energia group, which is owned by Italian defence giant Finmeccanica. It has around 170 employees and is involved in the development of nuclear plants and reactors, as well as their decommissioning, and waste management.
