Journalist Bocca dies
(ANSA) - Milan, December 26 - Respected journalist Giorgio Bocca died on Christmas Day at the age of 91, his family said Monday. Bocca, a former WWII partisan and a rigorous critic of Italian society, was widely considered among the greatest journalists of his generation. He made his name with investigative reporting for the Il Giorno daily and was later among the founders of the left--eaning La Repubblica newspaper where he analysed Italy's ills including corruption and the Mafia, also publishing several books. Bocca was latterly severe with ex-premier Silvio Berlusconi although he did have a brief stint as a current-affairs host on one of the Berlusconi TV networks. He often harked back to his Resistance roots and Italian President Giorgio Napolitano remembered him Monday as "a leading and always coherent figure in the partisan movement."
