Milan, January 20 - The FTSE Mib index plunged 3.3% as most previously suspended stocks resumed trading in midway through Wednesday's session. Monte dei Paschi di Siena (MPS) bank remained suspended (-16%) as did Saipem (-6.3) on the eve of a board meeting to decide on a capital increase. Banks continued weak, with Banco Popolare -6.98%, UniCredit -5.18%, Bpm -4.5%, UBI -4.19% and Intesa Sanpaolo -3.57%. European stock markets were off to a rocky start after Asian markets closed down sharply on what analysts said were sinking raw materials prices, oil price volatility, and lowering investor confidence in the global economy.
