Milan, January 27 - STMicroelectronics (ST) announced a global workforce review on Wednesday, which will result in the redeployment of 600 workers and workforce realignment that may affect about 1,400 workers worldwide, of whom 430 in France through voluntary redundancy, 670 in Asia, and 120 in the US. The French-Italian electronics and semiconductor manufacturer also announced that it will discontinue the development of new platforms and standard products for set-top-box and home gateway. CEO Carlo Bozotti said the decision was based on sustainability and due to "significant losses posted by our set-top box business over the past years in an increasingly challenging market".
