Bari, January 26 - A 39-year-old woman died Tuesday after the ambulance taking her to hospital crashed into a car in the Puglia city of Bari. Investigators are trying to ascertain whether the victim named as Carmela Pizzito - who was being rushed to hospital in acute respiratory distress - died because of the delay in getting her to hospital, or because of the crash between the ambulance and a Citroen C3, which ended up on the sidewalk. The reasons for the collision are still unclear. Three more ambulances rushed to the scene to aid the crash victims. The ambulance driver was hospitalized with head trauma while the rest of the ambulance team - including a woman doctor - were slightly injured. The impact was so severe fire fighters had to intervene to extract the car's driver and passenger. Both sustained light injuries. Also injured, but not seriously, was a 17-year-old passerby who was on his way to school.
