"We are saving Schengen by applying Schengen", said Margaritis Schinas, EU Commission spokeperson. Talking about the preparation of the procedures to activate article 26, the article that forsees the possibility to introduce controls at the internal borders for one or more member states for a maximum of two years, spokeperson Natasha Bertaud said: "We are preparing for all eventualities. From the Commission point of view we are not yet there, but we want to be ready".
