Rome, January 8 - Just under 100,000 cases of influenza were recorded in the week from December 28 to January 3, down from 239,000 cases in the same period last year, the Superior Institute of Health (ISS) said Friday. The total incidence is equal to 1.64 cases of the flu per 1,000 patients, with peaks of 5.59 per 1,000 among children aged 0-4 and lows of 0.65 per 1,000 among those aged over 65. The low incidence is due to a generally mild winter but will likely pick up when schools open after the winter holidays, experts said.
