Sassari, January 8 - A newborn baby girl died after her 30-year-old mother gave birth at home, in a dwelling without running water or electricity that authorities described as a "hovel", said Sardinian daily La Nuova Sardegna on Friday. Paramedics found the mother in life-threatening condition after giving birth the evening of January 6, at home with the baby's 33-year-old father. They transported her to Sassari via helicopter for treatment in hospital, where she is still recovering. She said she hadn't realised she was pregnant.
