Rome, December 28 - Libyan Premier Fayez Al-Serraj said after meeting Italian Premier Matteo Renzi in Rome Monday he hoped that "the Italian embassy and consulate will return to Tripoli as soon as possible". He said Libya will work to reinstate a 2008 cooperation and friendship accord with Italy that ""will help our economic reforms and the return of foreign investments." The accord was signed in August 2008 by then premier Silvio Berlusconi and then president Muammar Gaddafi, whose 2011 ouster led to the current instability in the faction-torn north African country. Al-Serraj and Renzi agreed Monday to help implement a UN-brokered December 17 accord to form a national-unity government.
