Milan, December 31 - Smog-creating particulates or PM10 readings fell Wednesday in Milan after authorities banned cars for several days, regional environmental protection agency ARPA said Thursday. Yesterday's readings recorded 45-59 micrograms of PM10s per cubic meter of air, against the 80 micrograms recorded at the height of the smog emergency. The legal limit is 50 micrograms per cubic meter of air. PM10s are carcinogenic and cause a range of respiratory and other illnesses, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
